Welcoming the New Year with a bang more often than not causes casualties from firecrackers misuse. The recent New Year celebration alone recorded a lot of cases of fireworks-related injuries, which is why hospitals everywhere are all super busy taking care of the patients, the hospital attendants wearing a wide variety of all cotton scrubs making sure the casualties are given proper treatment for their burns and wounds. I saw in the news that at least twenty cases involving stray bullets were reported, with half occurring in the street. That is a scary number, especially for a mom like me with a little kid to worry about.
The hospital scene I saw on TV was pure chaos for the patients, with nurses in their nursing uniforms and doctors wearing burnt orange scrubs doing their rounds efficiently to soothe people who are in distress over their injuries. People keep using firecrackers despite the fact that their health is in danger when they light one. I know it’s the thrill they get from the experience, but it’s a cheap thrill compared to what could happen to their extremities or another part of their body should something go horribly wrong. I wish to live and see the day when we will have a casualty-free New Year where everybody is happy.
